Following an international search, Professor Neil Lawrence has been appointed as the inaugural DeepMind Professor of Machine Learning at ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ, supported by a benefaction from the world-leading British AI company.

British musician Stormzy is delighted to announce that he is funding a further two undergraduate students at the ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ this autumn.

Since the first cohort of Gates ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ Scholars in 2001, more than 1,600 scholars have been selected from over 100 countries. This year’s cohort of 90 Scholars - the Class of 2019 - includes citizens from 37 different countries and the first scholars from Burundi and Mongolia.

A new training and research programme at the ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ will fund PhD students and early-career researchers as they work to develop technologies for the world’s future energy and computational needs. 

¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ Conservation Initiative (CCI) last week unveiled a programme to restore priority landscapes across Europe. The Endangered Landscapes Programme (ELP) will provide a demonstration of nature’s powers of recovery, and the benefits to habitats, species and people of restoring biodiversity and ecosystem processes to degraded land and seas. 

British musician Stormzy has announced ‘The Stormzy Scholarship’, a brand new studentship scheme for ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ students which will see four British black students provided with financial support during their degree courses.

The ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ will establish a DeepMind Chair of Machine Learning, thanks to a benefaction from the world-leading British AI company.  

The long-sought dream of wearable and mobile devices that will interpret, replicate and influence people’s emotions and perceptions will soon be a reality thanks to a collaboration between the University and Nokia Bell Labs.
