The diaries of Captain Scott’s widow – and the papers of her second husband, Lord Kennet – will be made accessible to researchers at ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University Library following their acceptance in lieu of inheritance tax.

In 2016, ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University Library will celebrate 600 years as one of the world's greatest libraries with a spectacular exhibition of priceless treasures – and a second show throwing light on its more weird and wonderful collections.

Saved from destruction by the Nazis and smuggled in secret to ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ, the rescue of author Arthur Schnitzler’s archive is as dramatic as any fiction he committed to paper.

An exhibition celebrating King George I’s gift of 30,000 books and manuscripts to ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University Library - including the celebrated 8th-century ‘Moore Bede’, the world’s first atlas to include city plans, and a previously unknown Erasmus poem - has opened to the public today (October 2).

Handwritten copies of scores by composers of English lute music have been digitised in a programme to make a precious legacy available to professional and amateur musicians around the world. 

Siegfried Sassoon’s First World War diaries – some bearing traces of mud from the Somme – are among 4,100 pages from his personal archive being made freely available online from today, almost 100 years since Britain declared war on Germany.

It was the conundrum that baffled some of the greatest and most eccentric experts of the 18th century - and captivated the British public during an era of unprecedented scientific and technical transformation.

Billions of web pages from millions of websites, as well as public Facebook posts and tweets, will be preserved for time immemorial from tomorrow by ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University Library and five other major libraries.

¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University Library and the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Libraries have today announced their first ever joint fundraising campaign to purchase the £1.2 million ‘Lewis-Gibson Genizah Collection’, currently owned by the United Reformed Church’s Westminster College.
