The University’s new Centre for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) has been honoured with ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ’s highest design award.
The David Urwin award was presented jointly to CMS and a student accommodation block for Churchill College. The awards were set up in 1988, following the death of David Urwin, the then City planning officer and are referred to as ‘architectural oscars’. They are presented annually by ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ City Council, ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ Evening News and ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ Forum for the Construction Industry.
In all, the judging team visited 14 buildings constructed between 1998 and 2002. Some of them put up by private developers, others by the ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ and some by the Colleges.
Dr Jonathan Burgess, of ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ City Council’s conservation team said:
