¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ

School/college students thinking about applying for 2005 entry to ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ (or deferred entry in 2006) are welcome to come along to one of the many open days and information days taking place this month.

Ten members of staff from the ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ have been recognised for their excellence in teaching at the annual Pilkington Teaching Prizes.

Malcolm Grant, one of ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ's two Pro-Vice-Chancellors, has been appointed Provost of University College London (UCL), one of Britain's leading universities. Professor Grant will be leading UCL from October, returning to an institution which he served from 1986 to 1991 as Professor of Law and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Laws.

One of the leading figures in the struggle to end Apartheid in South Africa returns to ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ this week to give two talks. Justice Albie Sachs, a Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, was the first Nuffield Fellow of Socio-Legal Studies, at Bedford College, London, and Wolfson College, ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ. He will give lectures at the Centre for Public Law and to the University's South African Students group.

Several members of the University were recognised in the New Year Honours list for 2002.

The choir of Clare College are joining forces with a New York choir tonight to commemorate the victims of the September 11 tragedy.

Today (Monday 24 June 2002) the Chancellor of the ¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, conferred honorary degrees at a traditional ceremony in the University's Senate House.

¹ú¼ÊÃ×À¼¶ÔÕó¿ÆĪ University has received 48 top 5 grades in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise, with 30 departments receiving the ultimate 5* accolade. A total of 51 departments were assessed and none was graded less than 4.
